Nine would-be robbers entered Phipps Plaza early Wednesday through an unlocked door and tried to break into the mall’s Gucci store, Atlanta police said.

Mall cameras captured three vehicles pulling up to Phipps Plaza’s front entrance about 4:23 a.m., police told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

Nine people exited the vehicles and went inside the Peachtree Road mall. It was not immediately clear why the mall’s door was unlocked. Once inside, the group attempted to break through the door of the Gucci store, police said.

“The door sustained significant damage,” police said, “but entry to the business was not made.”

The would-be robbers left the mall empty-handed and fled in a newer model burnt orange Chevrolet Camaro, a silver Ford Fusion and a silver Toyota Camry, police said.

Descriptions of the suspects were not released.
