A woman was struck by a vehicle on a sidewalk and killed Thursday in southwest Atlanta, police said. The incident happened at a MARTA bus stop, according to multiple news outlets.

About 11:45 a.m., officers responded to Pryor Road and Amal Drive, police spokeswoman Kim Jones said. The driver of a 2006 Honda Civic was heading south on Pryor Road, and as she approached a stop sign, she swerved left and went onto the sidewalk where the victim was standing, Jones said.

The car struck the victim, carrying her a short distance, Jones said. The car then hit a tree and a porch at an apartment complex.

The victim was identified as Annie Cole, 58, of Atlanta, Fulton County Medical Examiner’s office spokesman Clint Harbin said.

The driver was transported to a hospital, Jones said. “She was completely hysterical,” witness Ronald Mitchell told Channel 2 Action News.

This accident happened at the same intersection where a 21-year-old pregnant woman was killed in May.

“I’m only 22, and I’ve seen two deaths in six months outside of my complex,” Mitchell told Channel 2.
