A woman was shot and killed Monday night in front of her children and Douglasville police said her boyfriend did it.

About 8:50 p.m., Douglasville police and the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office got a call Monday night about a shooting in the 7000 block of Hunters Ridge Drive.

They found 28-year-old Annastasia Mackin dead in the front seat of her car in the driveway of that residence, police said.

“Four children and the victim’s mother were actually out at the car when the shooting occurred,” Douglasville police Lt. Mark Edwards told Channel 2 Action News.

The nearby Augusta Woods subdivision was temporarily placed on lockdown while police searched for the shooter, who ran away after the incident. He was located behind a residence.

“As officers converged on him,” Edwards said, “he shot himself in the head with a semi-automatic pistol.”

The suspect, identified as Paul Humphries, was rushed to WellStar Douglas Hospital, Edwards said. He was transferred to WellStar Kennestone Hospital, where he is currently undergoing treatment.

The shooting remains under investigation.
