A DeKalb County woman faces a slew of charges after allegedly attacking two women inside her Dunwoody apartment complex.
Loverne McKenzie is charged with two counts of aggravated assault, two counts of battery and one count of robbery after two women told Dunwoody police she attacked them in a span of less than two months.
The alleged assaults occurred in the Notting Hill apartment complex off Perimeter Center North, Dunwoody police spokesman Sgt. Robert Parsons said.
The first attack took place in early February and the second occurred last week, Parsons said. Both women told Channel 2 Action News the incidents were unprovoked and lasted several minutes.
One woman told police she was outside walking her dog when McKenzie tackled her to the ground and started punching and strangling her, police said. When the woman’s boyfriend heard the commotion and came outside, McKenzie allegedly pulled a knife on him and then took off running.
“Our detectives were investigating that when the second attack occurred,” Parsons said. “In this one, she took the victim’s purse and wallet and took off.”
Police said a break in the case came when another resident notified officers about a neighbor who didn’t pick up after her pets.
It turned out one of the alleged victims told investigators McKenzie had a Pomeranian and a Chihuahua. When officers knocked on McKenzie’s door, they noticed she matched the description given by the two women.
“The lady opened the door and there were the two dogs,” Parsons said, adding that both women quickly identified McKenzie as the person they said attacked them. “Because that person flagged down the officers, they were able to clear both cases.”
Records show McKenzie was released from the DeKalb jail Thursday afternoon.
