A woman has been arrested in connection with the “violent death” of her 69-year-old ex-husband, a northwest Georgia sheriff said Wednesday.

About 9:45 p.m. Tuesday, deputies went to a home in the 500 block of Baxter Road near the Dews Pond community after receiving a report of the death, Gordon County Sheriff Mitch Ralston said.

Inside the home, deputies found the body of Willie W. Tidwell. After deputies found Tidwell’s body, detectives began interviewing witnesses and collecting physical evidence.

“Within one hour, a female, known to the victim, was located [at a residence on West May Street] in Calhoun and has been detained for questioning,” Ralston said.

That woman, 62-year-old Ollie Mae Gravely, was arrested on a murder charge, he said.

“The knife believed to have been used as a weapon was recovered by Sheriff’s Crime Scene investigators,” Ralston said.

Other details about Tidwell’s death were not released Wednesday.

Gordon County is more than 70 miles northwest of Atlanta.
