Widow of College Park man killed by stray bullet sues apartment owner

The widow of a man killed by a stray bullet at a College Park apartment has sued the owners, claiming they had an obligation to ensure a safer environment.

Ricketta Renee Moore, 34, sued Avery Park Partners and David Scott Henderson Wednesday in Fulton County State Court on behalf of the couple’s three children.

Henderson was listed in the lawsuit as the owner of the Avery Park Apartments and Roosevelt Park Apartments. Attempts to reach him for comment Thursday were unsuccessful.

Robert Moore, 52, died earlier this month while sitting in his Roosevelt Park unit when he was shot by a stray bullet fired during an argument outside, according to authorities. Moore, who owned an outdoor cleaning and pressure-washing business, and his family moved into the unit after a fire at Avery Park Apartments made their unit there uninhabitable, Ricketta Moore said.

So far police have arrested one man on a weapons charge. Felerix Cofer, 44, lives in the same building where Moore lived and is believed to have been involved with the shooting, according to police.

Police believe Cofer was upset about people leaning on his car during a basketball game in the parking lot, according to Channel 2 Action News. Authorities believe he got into a shootout with three or four people, and said earlier in the month they are looking for additional suspects.

Attempts to reach police Thursday on whether they had upgraded the charges against Cofer or arrested anyone else in the case were unsuccessful.
