Gwinnett County police say they have obtained several arrest warrants against a Tennessee man in connection with the shooting death of a Lawrenceville man last month.

Deveric Hardy, 21, was charged with felony murder, aggravated assault and purchasing marijuana, Cpl. Deon Washington said Friday.

“His whereabouts are unknown at this time and the investigation is ongoing,” Washington said. Further details were not available.

Kyree Shakur Smith, 19, of Lawrenceville, died after being shot outside a McDonald’s on Hamilton Mill Road near Dacula in late November, officials said. Smith was in a car in the parking lot when he was shot.

A witness who was in the drive-thru told police he heard gunfire before seeing “the victim’s black car come over the curb and up the small embankment,” The Atlanta Journal-Constitution previously reported. The witness told police he then saw a red Nissan Sentra drive off behind the nearby Publix.

Another teen was in the car with Smith but was not injured, officials said at the time. Cpl. Michele Pihera said detectives “are looking into the possibility” that the shooting was drug-related.
