A 19-year-old author and Morehouse College student is recovering at home after a Thursday night car crash near his subdivision, according to his representative.
Jared Sawyer Jr. was leaving his Decatur subdivision when he was T-boned while making a left turn onto Snapfinger Road from Rolling View Drive, according to a DeKalb County police accident report.
Sawyer pulled out into a Toyota Sienna and was struck from the rear, according to the report. He was taken to Grady Memorial Hospital. The minivan driver and her child were not injured and released at the scene.
Sawyer’s representative, Jenna Sims, said he is being treated for head, neck and back injuries. Sims said the family has asked for prayers in hopes of a speedy recovery.
Authorities cited Sawyer with an improper left turn.
Sawyer rose to prominence at age 8 from his viral YouTube preaching videos, Sims said. He has written three books and is a junior religion major.
In May, he was interviewed by The Atlanta Journal-Constitution about the Netflix series “Dear White People,” based on the movie of the same name, which chronicles students of color at a predominantly white school.
The four-part video series also featured students from Clark Atlanta, Emory, Georgia, Georgia Tech, Morehouse and Spelman.
