A Virginia man on the run following a fatal stabbing has been arrested in Marietta, the Cobb County Sheriff’s Office said Wednesday.

A tip led Cobb deputies and U.S. Marshals to a Mulkey Circle apartment, a spokesman for the Sheriff’s Office said. Lamar Donte Lewis, 35, was taken into custody after an extensive surveillance operation.

Lewis is one of two suspects charged with murder in the death of a 48-year-old man Nov. 1, according to Prince William County, Va., police. Lewis and Byron Alan King, 30, both of Woodbridge, Va., are accused in the stabbing death of Gilbert Kinard.

Virginia investigators believe Lewis, King and Kinard were involved in a physical altercation around 2 a.m. After being stabbed, Kinard ran from the scene before collapsing and dying on the front steps of a nearby townhome, where he was found hours later.

The day after Kinard was found, police identified Lewis and King as the two suspects.

Lewis was booked Tuesday into the Cobb jail, where he was being held Wednesday afternoon with no bond and is awaiting extradition. King has been located, police said.
