A Lula man involved in a standoff in Barrow County on Friday was found dead, authorities said.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is working to determine whether the suspect killed himself or died when officers returned fire. One deputy was wounded in the incident.

Hall County deputies responded to a home on Melinda Drive in Barrow County after receiving a tip that murder suspect Jason Foreman was there, Hall sheriff’s office spokeswoman Deputy Nicole Bailes told Channel 2 Action News.

Foreman, 45, was wanted for the fatal shooting of a man Thursday in Lula, she said.

As authorities approached the home, a deputy was shot by Foreman and officers returned fire, she said.

A SWAT standoff that included deputies from Barrow and Hall counties lasted several hours.

Authorities deployed a robot to approach the garage where Foreman was barricaded, and it was determined that he was dead, Bailes said.

The deputy, whose name has not been released, had a superficial wound, Barrow County Sheriff’s Office spokesman Judd Smith told Channel 2.

The deputy was treated at a hospital and released, Bailes said.
