Suspect ID’d in alleged Dragon Con sexual assault case

Atlanta police are seeking a 45-year-old man in connection with a sexual assault that was reported during last weekend's Dragon Con parade.

Lerisha Collins is wanted on sexual battery and public indecency charges, police Detective R.M. Woolfolk said Friday. Collins’ last known address was in Duluth, but he may frequent the 700 block of Peachtree Street NE.

Police are asking for the public’s help in finding the suspect.

The incident happened about 11:12 a.m. at Andrew Young International Boulevard and Peachtree Center Avenue, officials said. A woman said in a Facebook post shared thousands of times that she was in the parade crowd when she felt someone pressed up against her from behind, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution previously reported. She later realized it was a man’s exposed genitalia.

The woman said when she noticed the man, she started “screaming and hitting him” until he ran away, the AJC reported. A girl standing next to her got pictures of the man, which the woman included in her Facebook post.

The woman was attending the parade with her child and fiance, police said.

“Any time a crime such as this is committed, it’s extremely wrong,” Woolfolk said. “We’re forunate that the survivor of this incident was courageous enough to come forward and work with the special victims unit to move this case forward.”
