Smyrna police search for suspect in attempted kidnapping

Smyrna police on Tuesday released a sketch of a man wanted in an attempted kidnapping of an 11-year-old girl.

Between 4:15 p.m. and 4:30 p.m. Aug. 5, the department received a report that the girl was walking home from Campbell Middle School when the man depicted in the sketch approached her and tried to persuade her to get in his car, Smyrna police spokesman Louis Defense said in an emailed statement.

The girl refused to get in the man’s car and ran to the front door of the nearest home, prompting the suspect to speed away from the scene in a four-door truck. The make and model are not known, Defense said.

Anyone with information about the attempted kidnapping is asked to contact the Smyrna Police Department at 770-434-6666.
