A 21-year-old Cherokee County man charged with fatally stabbing his mother will make his first appearance before a judge Tuesday afternoon.

The suspect, Michael Jacobs, called 911 Sunday night and told dispatchers he had killed his mother during a domestic dispute, Cherokee sheriff’s spokesman Lt. Jay Baker said.

Deputies arrived at the Jacobs’ apartment off Highway 92 in Woodstock, where they found 54-year-old Melony Jacobs, who appeared to have “multiple stab wounds to her body,” Baker said.

Michael Jacobs, whose hands were injured at some point Sunday, was taken to Northside Hospital-Cherokee for treatment and released. Baker said there were no “obvious signs” that the suspect was under the influence of of drugs or alcohol but added a toxicology report was still being conducted.

Jacobs, charged with felony murder and murder without malice, is being held without bond at the Cherokee County Adult Detention Center.
