A former Forsyth County sheriff’s captain was arrested Tuesday on charges of sexual assault and battery of a minor.

Frank Huggins, 73, of Cumming, was working as a driving instructor at Lanier Technical College when he was accused of groping his student, Forsyth sheriff spokesman Deputy Epifanio Rodriguez said.

Huggins faces one count of misdemeanor sexual battery and one count of felony sexual assault after police told Channel 2 Action News they obtained video of him repeatedly putting his hand on the inner thigh of a 16-year-old girl during a driving lesson last month.

“Detectives confirmed the victim’s allegations using video and audio evidence from camera footage recovered from inside the vehicle,” Rodriguez said.

He was booked into and later released on bond from the county jail.

Huggins denied the allegations in a Facebook post. He thanked friends for their concern and said he will only give one comment on the advice of counsel, according to Channel 2.

“First of all it is absolutely not true and I intend to prove that when my day in court comes,” he said. “Second, I ask for your support and prayers in the days ahead.”

Huggins served as captain from 2001 to 2010 and was also a spokesman for the sheriff’s office, Rodriguez said.
