A four-time convicted felon was released from state prison on parole in April 2014. Four months later, he burglarized a Douglas County home and stole multiple appliances, according to prosecutors.

But one of the stolen items, the outdoor air conditioning unit, had a GPS tracking device. The unit was found behind Ray Boone Bright’s home. This time, Bright won’t be eligible for parole until he spends 25 years behind bars, the Douglas County District Attorney’s Office said Friday.

“This defendant is where he needs to be, and that is behind bars without the possibility of parole,” said Thomas Kegley, senior assistant DA. “Burglarizing homes and stealing property hurts Douglas County home buyers trying to realize the American dream of home ownership, it hurts Douglas County home builders who bring jobs to our community, and hurts all Douglas County citizens by bringing crime into the community.”

In August 2014, an unoccupied home was burglarized and multiple appliances were taken, the DA’s office said. Because other homes had been previously burglarized a GPS tracking system was placed on an air conditioning unit that was stolen from the home.

“With the cooperation of the homeowner, the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office tracked the air conditioning unit to the back yard of the defendant’s home in East Point, where the air conditioning unit was concealed under a blanket,” the DA’s office said in a Facebook post. “Upon locating the air conditioning unit, a search warrant was obtained and defendant’s home was searched, where the other stolen appliances were located.”

Bright was previously convicted for similar felony crimes in 2008 in DeKalb County, 2009 in Forsyth County, and 2010 in Fulton County, the DA’s office said.

Bright was sentenced to 30 years with the first 25 to be served without the possibility of parole.
