After a woman and her child were robbed at gunpoint this week in Sandy Springs, police are investigating if the incident was connected to a deadly shooting outside a popular Marietta restaurant.

The armed robbery happened Monday, just days after a shooting outside a Pappadeaux on Windy Hill Road left Anthony Welch dead and his wife Cynthia Welch injured. The alleged gunman stole a $5 necklace.

According to a police report, the woman in Sandy Springs was just getting back to her apartment with her 1-year-old when she thought she noticed someone go behind her apartment deck. The woman called her boyfriend and asked him to check behind the deck to see if he saw someone, according to the report. He told her no one was there.

As soon as she got out of the car holding her baby, a man walked up behind her and said: “Shut up, shut up! Give me your chain.”

The man forced the woman to the ground and snatched a gold chain off her and another one off her child, according to the police report. He also took $120 cash, an iPhone, her debit card and other personal items and information.

Police said the woman described the man as being between 20 and 30 years old, 6-foot-1 and 200 pounds.

Sandy Springs police said they are working with officials to find out if the robbery is connected to the Oct. 7 restaurant shooting as well as an armed robbery in Woodstock. In all three instances, a man approached victims at gunpoint near their cars and demanded necklaces.
