A Roswell man has been arrested and charged with molesting a middler schooler, Canton police said.

Joshua Morgan Howlett, 25, on Wednesday was charged with aggravated child molestation, criminal attempt to commit child molestation, criminal attempt to commit statutory rape, enticing a child for indecent purposes and sodomy.

On Jan. 4, the Plainview Police Department in Connecticut contacted Canton detectives about an incident where a middle school age child was allegedly molested within the jurisdiction of Canton.

Canton detectives made contact via text message, posing as the victim, and established a rapport with Howlett, police said.

Howlett agreed to drive to Canton on Tuesday to have sex with who he thought was the teen and police arrested him.

Police said he admitted his involvement in the criminal activity during a subsequent interview with detectives.

“I am extremely grateful for the hard work and efforts of our detectives in this case,” Canton Police Chief Mark J. Mitchell said. “Their diligence ensured the arrest of this individual which brings resolution to this criminal act and furthers our efforts to improve the quality of life and safety for the children in our community.”
