A resident jumped from a second-floor window to escape a burning apartment building in Smyrna on Friday morning.

Smyrna fire officials told Channel 2 Action News the resident and another person who was burned by the flames at The Alcove apartments were taken to a hospital.

Crews were called to the complex off Woodlands Drive shortly after 1 a.m. and found a fully involved fire, according to Channel 2.

Cierra Ollis said she could hear the sirens before she went outside to see flames shooting from Building 6.

“There were flames shooting up in the sky,” Ollis told the news station. “Firemen were inside, so there was hose water shooting up in the sky. It was really kind of a spectacle.”

A total of nine families were displaced by the fire, Channel 2 reported. One unit inside the building was not occupied at the time.
