A Cobb County man has been arrested and charged in the Thanksgiving Day shooting deaths of his mother and stepfather, police said.

Just before 7 p.m. Thursday, officers responding to reports of gunshots in the Camden Pointe subdivision found the man and woman dead inside a home in the 5000 block of Camden Lake Drive, Cobb police spokeswoman Alicia Chilton told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution in an email.

“Officers located a male suspect in the front yard and detained him without incident,” said Chilton, adding that police were not looking for any additional suspects.

“At this time, the incident appears to be domestic-related,” she said.

Police on Friday afternoon identified the two dead people as Ellen DeLoach, 60, and her husband, 58-year-old Michael Bradley DeLoach.

According to Cobb County Jail records, Dustin Ray Dixon, 34, of Marietta, was arrested at the home and was being held without bond, charged with two counts of murder, four counts of aggravated assault and four counts of possession of a firearm or knife during the commission of a crime.

Chilton said Dixon is Ellen DeLoach's son. Ellen DeLoach was a local artist whose paintings have been exhibited in recent years at the Bill Lowe Gallery in Atlanta.

Two other family members were inside the home at the time of the shooting, but were able to escape unharmed, the police spokeswoman said.
