A felon is accused of hitting a Cobb County police officer’s car while attempting to run over the officer during a traffic stop, police said.
Rasheed Oran Jakes, 31, of Austell, faces nearly a dozen charges after the incident, which happened on Elsner Road near Riverside Parkway last week, Channel 2 Action News reported.
According to an arrest warrant obtained by Channel 2, the officer “ordered the driver to stop,” but the car drove forward and “nearly hit the officer.”
Police searched his car and said they found a stolen gun, ecstasy, methamphetamine and a bag of marijuana. The amount of drugs seized was not provided.
In addition to drug-related charges, he faces charges of felony theft, obstruction, aggravated assault on an officer and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon in addition to several misdemeanors, Cobb County Jail records show. He’s also charged with an unrelated count of failure to appear in court.
