A wedding day was ruined and the would-be groom remains jailed after he hit his fiancee with a silver tissue box in their Breakers’ hotel room, leaving a 2-inch gash on the back of her head, according to Palm Beach police.
Kevin Orive, 43, was arrested Sunday night on a misdemeanor battery charge, according to a police report. The couple had planned to marry Sunday, he told police, but he had called the nuptials off after they argued.
The argument began earlier in the day while the couple was sitting in bed drinking, according to the report. The woman saw a text message exchange on Orive’s phone with his ex-girlfriend, according to the report, and the argument escalated after he called off the wedding.

She told police that he hit her with the tissue box, but Orive told police that the tissue box hit her head after he deflected it with his arm, according to the report. He also told police that he was defending himself.
When police arrived in the room, they found Orive, of West Palm Beach, holding a bloody towel to his fiancee’s head, according to the report. He had “faint scratches” on his body but no other injuries, the report said.
The woman was taken to Good Samaritan Hospital, where she received five staples, police said.
Orive, who does not have a violent criminal history in Palm Beach County, remained in the Palm Beach County Jail on Monday afternoon on $3,000 bond.
