The GBI is investigating an officer-involved shooting where two officers in Franklin County were shot during a traffic stop Monday evening.

The incident happened in Lavonia, which is about 93 miles northeast of Atlanta.

Two Lavonia officers initiated a traffic stop around the I-85 exit at a Zaxby’s restaurant, GBI spokeswoman Nelly Miles said.

During the stop, the driver fired upon the officers, striking both.

The officers received non-life threatening injuries and were both transported to an area hospital for treatment.

The suspect is still on the loose.

No additional information was immediately available.
