A Clayton County police officer has been placed on paid administrative leave after shooting one of two suspects in a burglary at a home near Ellenwood.

At about 12:30 p.m. Thursday, police were called to a house on Katherine Village Drive, Officer Hal Weiner said. When officers arrived, they found two suspects and tried to arrest them.

One suspect got in a vehicle. As he tried to speed away, he brandished a gun and did not put it down when police ordered him to, Channel 2 Action News reported.

An officer then fired at and wounded the suspect, who was taken to a hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The other suspect fled on foot and was later caught in a nearby wooded area after being tracked by a K9. He was arrested and taken to a hospital.

Authorities have not released the names of the suspects nor the officer involved.

The GBI is investigating the shooting.
