A fight between a man and two East Point police officers left the man dead and the two officers injured Friday at an East Point apartment complex.

Officers were responding to a call about a suspicious person at the Legends at Laura Creek on Lakeview Place, according to Georgia Bureau of Investigation spokeswoman Nelly Miles. It was the second call in the same incident. The first, reported between 3 a.m. and 3:30 a.m., was related to a domestic dispute.

When East Point officers arrived at the apartment, they confronted the man and ended up having to use a Taser before firing multiple shots, Miles said. The officers were not shot, but the man was struck.

He was taken to Grady Memorial Hospital, where he died from his injuries. His name has not been released.

One of the officers had been released from the hospital by noon, and the other was still recovering, according to Channel 2 Action News.

The GBI was called in to investigate at 4:30 a.m.

The officers involved will remain on standard paid administrative leave while the investigation is ongoing.
