A woman’s boyfriend is accused of hitting her 2-year-old daughter with his fist while the mother was at work, Kennesaw police said.

Martin Lee McIntosh faces aggravated battery and cruelty to children charges after WellStar Kennestone Hospital staff discovered the toddler had bruises on her leg “severe enough to require immediate surgery,” Kennesaw police Sgt. Brice A. Barth said in a news release.

“The investigation determined McIntosh had struck the child multiple times with his fist,” Barth said.

According to police, the mom left the child at home with McIntosh at the Efficiency Lodge on the 2600 block of North Cobb Parkway while she went to work. When she came back, she noticed her daughter’s injuries and took her to the hospital Friday.

The child had multiple bone fractures to her leg, Barth said. Her condition and name have not been released.

Barth said hospital staff thought the injuries were suspicious enough to call police.

McIntosh also faces a drug charge.
