A convicted felon who was sought by police after he was mistakenly released from custody in Louisiana was arrested at a Motel 6 in Norcross.
Benjuiel Johnson, 32, was arrested by the U.S. Marshals Service early Friday, Brian Lucio of the marshals service said in a statement.
Johnson was released Sept. 26 by authorities in East Feliciana Parish after posting bond on charges of assaulting a corrections officer in 2014, Lucio said.
He had received a 40-year sentence in 2013 after he pleaded guilty to manslaughter and illegal possession of a firearm by a convicted felon in the 2010 shooting death of a man in Iberville Parish, Lucio said. But, due to an error, that sentence was not added to his record, allowing for his release.
Johnson fled Baton Rouge, La., for Atlanta earlier this week, Lucio said.
