Five people, including three minors, have been arrested in connection with two armed robberies on Georgia Tech’s campus, a school spokesman said.
Georgia Tech spokesman Lance Wallace did not release the names and ages of the minors involved in the robberies. However, he said two 18-year-old men — Amid Malachi Francis of Lawrenceville and Jacarious Corouthers of Stone Mountain — are in the Fulton County Jail on armed robbery and loitering charges. Corouthers faces an additional charge of carrying weapons on school property, according to online jail records.
In the first incident, two students were robbed at gunpoint as they walked south on Fowler Street between 6th and 8th streets about 4 a.m. May 3. One of the suspects exited a black Toyota Camry, pointed a gun at the victims and demanded their belongings, according to an alert from the school.
The suspect returned to the car, which was last seen heading north on Fowler Street toward 10th Street.
A few days later, three people struck a student from behind, held him at knifepoint and stole his wallet, according to another alert from Georgia Tech.
The robbery happened in an area between 4th Street Apartments South and Matheson Residence Hall about 2 a.m. May 6.
The trio ran toward a dark-colored, early 2000s-model vehicle parked on Techwood Drive and drove south toward North Avenue.
Anyone with information about the robberies is asked to call the Georgia Tech Police Department at 404-894-2500. Tipsters can also remain anonymous by contacting Crime Stoppers at 404-577-8477 or crimetips@police.gatech.edu.
