Two Milton women were found dead in an apparent murder-suicide, police say.

Officers responded to the Deer Creek Place home Tuesday afternoon to conduct a welfare check after someone reported a suspicious odor, Milton police spokesman Lt. Charles Barstow said.

Police believe the women were related and lived together. They appeared to have died from gunshot wounds, but an autopsy will confirm the official cause of death, Barstow said.

Names have not been released pending notification of next of kin.

This marks the first homicide investigation by the Milton Police Department this year, Barstow said.
