Three metro Atlanta men who were found guilty of murdering a 21-year-old man in Alpharetta were sentenced to life in prison Monday, authorities said.
Michael Kamar Dawson of Lithonia, Dontravious Mahone of Riverdale, and Jemal Gines of Decatur were each convicted last week in the death of Kadarius Cortez Medlock, AJC.com previously reported.

Dawson was sentenced to life in prison plus five years, while Mahone and Gines each got life in prison plus 15 years, the Fulton County District Attorney’s Office said in a news release.
They were found guilty of shooting Medlock in the head April 21, 2016, in The Preserve at Academy subdivision on Wade Creek Road, the release said.

Mahone put on a neon safety vest and brought an orange safety cone with him to Medlock’s house to pretend to be a utility worker, the release said. The three then broke through the front door, tied up the victim with an extension cord and ransacked his house, the release said. As they left, they shot Medlock in the back of the head, killing him.
Alpharetta police only found the traffic cone as evidence when they arrived at the scene, but investigators tracked the type of cone to a nearby hardware store, the release said. The store’s surveillance video allowed police to see two of the suspects buy the cone.
They were also able to identify their car and used GSP tracking to link the men’s phones to the scene of the murder, the release said. Dawson’s DNA was also found on the traffic cone.
Four agencies arrested the three suspects about two months later at each of their residences.
They stole Medlock’s video game system, a Gucci scarf, a watch and a Louis Vuitton duffel bag, investigators said.
They were convicted of more than 10 charges, including murder, armed robbery and false imprisonment.
