A Marietta man was sentenced Friday to 10 years in prison followed by 10 years of probation for his role in an armed robbery in Gwinnett County.

Justin Jerome Jones, 22, was found guilty of two counts of aggravated assault and two counts of armed robbery, the Gwinnett County District Attorney’s Office said in a news release.

In March 2017, Jones was among a group of four invited to a home in the 2500 block of Seneca Trail for hours of playing cards, video games, drinking and smoking cigarettes, the release said.

Another member of the group, Jordan Dwight Dobson, is also a defendant facing the same charges, but his case is still pending, according to Gwinnett County court records. Jones and Dobson were accompanied by two women who do not face charges.

After about four hours, Dobson allegedly demanded the host empty his pockets, pistol-whipping the side of his head in the process before firing a gunshot into the floor.

The man attempted to run away, but Jones caught up to him, beating him onto the ground, the release said. The duo then allegedly stole everything in his pockets, including $700 cash.

A roommate, who had been sleeping downstairs, woke up after hearing the gunshot and found the two defendants searching through drawers, the release said. Jones then robbed the person at gunpoint, netting $5.

After the duo were arrested, the Cobb County Sheriff’s Office said it intercepted jail calls in which Jones was heard discussing the incident, the release said.

Until Jones is transferred to prison, he remains in the Gwinnett County Jail. Dobson also remains in jail without bond, according to jail records.
