A 26-year-old man was shot and seriously injured while walking down a busy DeKalb County street late Thursday morning, police said.

The victim, whose name has not been released, was walking with his girlfriend on Covington Highway near I-285 when two men walking in the opposite direction bumped into them, DeKalb police Capt. S.R. Fore said.

After an exchange of words, one of the two men pulled out a handgun and shot the victim in the thigh, Fore said.

The victim was taken to Grady Memorial Hospital in serious condition, he said.

Police early Thursday afternoon were using K9 officers to search for the suspect, according to Fore.
