Man shot during birthday party at Lake Lanier

Investigators believe three uninvited guests crashed a birthday celebration at Lake Lanier, and a verbal fight turned physical before shots were fired, police said Monday.

Shortly before 1 a.m. Sunday, deputies were called to a rental home at Lake Lanier Islands on a report of an active shooter, according to Deputy Nicole Bailes with the Hall County Sheriff’s Office. Neighboring law enforcement agencies, including Flowery Branch police, Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office and state Department of Natural Resources were also called to the home.

No suspects were located at the home.

Malik Davis, 23, of Union City was shot in the chest while attempting to break up a fight, Bailes said. Davis underwent emergency surgery at Northeast Georgia Medical Center, where he was in stable condition Monday in the intensive care unit, police said.

Police believe the lake home was rented for a party and that three uninvited men arrived. All three left before police arrived. Investigators were attempting to identify the three men Monday, Bailes said.
