Sylvester Stinson had one person on his mind the night he was gunned down in Atlanta Sunday night: his wife.

His sister, Babs Stinson-Phillips, told Channel 2 Action News her brother wasn’t going to let the carjacker get to her.

Stinson, 71, was shot several times Sunday as he left his daughter’s birthday party at her apartment in the 3600 block of Ramsey Close, Channel 2 reported.

Stinson and his wife were inside his car when a man approached him and demanded he get out, according to a police report. When Stinson refused, the gunman shot him three times.

He was shot three more times when the gunman saw he wasn’t dead.

The former Marine remains in the hospital, Channel 2 reported. No details on his condition were released.

The shooter hasn’t been found, but police released a sketch of the alleged gunman Wednesday and described him as 5-foot 8-inches tall with a thin build and in his early teens or late 20s.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Crime Stoppers Atlanta at 404-577-8477, texting information to 274637 or visiting crimestoppersatlanta.org. Tipsters can also remain anonymous, and be eligible for rewards of up to $2,000.

“So many people are being targeted,” Stinson-Phillips said, “and they’re being sot and killed for no reason at all, no reason at all.”
