A Cobb County Grand Jury indicted a man accused of driving under the influence of drugs and causing a crash that killed a 22-year-old Morehouse College student.

Quantae Lanard Adams, of Marietta, was indicted on charges of vehicular homicide, DUI, reckless driving, giving false information and driving without a license, according to his indictment filed Thursday.

On March 31, Adams was driving a black 2014 Chevrolet Camaro southbound on Windy Hill Road when he attempted to negotiate a left-hand curve, but instead crossed the concrete median and traveled into oncoming traffic, Cobb police previously said. Adams collided with a Pontiac, killing one of his passengers, according to investigators.

John Benjamin Daniel Harris Jr., 22, of Annapolis, Md., died in the crash, which police said injured four others. Harris, a former high school track star, was one month shy of graduating from Morehouse, where he was studying sociology on an academic scholarship, according to the Annapolis newspaper.

“Most of all, he was a good person, and that’s what I remember most,” Harris’s high school teacher told the paper. “He never minded helping a teammate out. He was a hard worker, and he found a way to get along with everyone and encouraged others around him to work hard.”

Adams, who was not seriously injured, was arrested at the scene of the wreck, police said. He remained Tuesday morning in the Cobb jail, where he was being held without bond. At the time of the crash, Adams was under the influence of alprazolam, also known by the brand name Xanax, his indictment states.
