Man found shot to death in Newton County neighborhood

A man found lying on the road in a Newton County neighborhood had been shot to death, the Sheriff’s Office said Tuesday. But deputies aren’t sure who the man is because he wasn’t carrying identification.

Deputies were called at 5:30 a.m. Tuesday to the Pebble Brook neighborhood, off Browns Bridge Road near Covington, and arrived to find the man dead in the road, the Sheriff’s Office said.

The victim was described only as a black male appearing to be in his late teens to early 20s. The body was taken to the GBI crime lab for an autopsy, the Sheriff’s Office said.
