CLAYTON COUNTY, Ga. — Clayton County police arrested a man in the 2013 death of an 8-month-old boy.

Police say Terrance Jones, 32, was left to babysit his girlfriend’s child, Tyler, along with her three other older children while she was at work.

Detectives say Jones told them he took the baby to play with his siblings that day at the home on Country Club Drive.

“(He) went back to sleep for a little bit of a second. Woke back up and the baby was having a seizure and throwing up milk,” said Clayton County police Detective Bernice Higgins.

Officers say he called 911 to report the child was throwing up milk and in distress.

Tyler eventually died. Police say doctors eventually determined the baby died a non-accidental brain injury.

“Previously it used to be called shaken baby syndrome. So there was indication of possibly the baby being shaken,” Higgins said.

Police say it took more than two years to make an arrest because of the medical examiner and interviews.

Channel 2’s Tom Jones spoke with the child’s mother, Lakivia Greenleaf, by phone. She said police are trying to piece together something that isn’t. She doesn’t think that Terrance Jones murdered her child and says she stands firm on that.
