Over the course of two days late last month, an Atlanta woman was drugged and brutally assaulted in front of her 2-week-old son — allegedly by her husband.

Prosper Ortega, 23, is at Grady Memorial Hospital, bruised and unable to see, according to Channel 2 Action News.

Police told the television station that Aaron Uchitel was in the Fulton County Jail on charges of aggravated battery, false imprisonment and cruelty to children. Uchitel is accused of tying up his wife inside their Southwest Atlanta home on June 24, then assaulting and torturing her until her mother rescued her.

Fawn Ortega shared her daughter’s story to bring light to the issue of domestic violence.

Fawn Ortega told Channel 2 she went to her daughter’s home to check on her but that her son-in-law refused to let her inside. After forcing her way in, she found her daughter. Her face was swollen.

“He was jabbing at her eyes, jabbing at her eyes so she couldn’t see the baby, and he cut her hair off and said, ‘I’m going to make it so where nobody will ever want you again,’” Fawn Ortega told Channel 2.

At one point, police said, Prosper Ortega attempted to escape through a bedroom window, but Uchitel pulled her back into the home.

Uchitel confessed to hitting her “a couple of times,” police told Channel 2. During a first court appearance Thursday, he was granted bond on an old simple battery charge. The new charges have no bond, meaning Uchitel will not be released from police custody.

A GoFundMe page has been created to help with Prosper Ortega's medical bills and recovery. Fawn Ortega is now caring for the couple's infant.
