A Woodstock woman died after a ski boat and a personal watercraft collided on Lake Allatoona on Saturday afternoon, authorities said.

Cheryl Lynn Shephard, 47, was a passenger on the personal watercraft when it wrecked just north of Little River Marina about 1 p.m., the Georgia Department of Natural Resources said in a news release.

She was taken to a Northside Hospital location, where she died. A man, who was driving the personal watercraft, was also taken to the hospital with serious injuries, but his condition was not provided.

No one in the ski boat was reported injured.

The incident remains under investigation. A spokesman for the DNR said the cause of the collision may not be determined for several weeks.

Shephard’s death is the first boating fatality on Lake Allatoona in 2019. There also was a drowning this year that was ruled a suicide, according to the state agency.

In 2018, there were no boating fatalities and two drownings on Lake Allatoona, the DNR said.
