A man was shot early Monday when a Cobb County resident tried to stop him from breaking into his car, police said.

Police told Channel 2 Action News that the homeowner’s home surveillance system sent his phone an alert when it noticed the man near his pickup truck outside his Buckland Way home in Mableton.

“The initial information is that the suspect was breaking into the resident’s car when the resident came out to check,” Cobb police spokesman Sgt. Wayne Delk told AJC.com. “At some point during the confrontation, the resident shot the suspect in the lower extremities.”
