A former Lyft driver was convicted Monday of raping an intoxicated customer in Cobb County more than two years ago.

Jerome Antonio Booze, 39, of Decatur, was found guilty of raping a Smyrna woman he was giving a ride home in December 2016, Cobb County District Attorney spokeswoman Kim Isaza said.

He picked up the woman from the Anchor Bar in northeast Atlanta on Dec. 10 after she requested a Lyft to take her home, Cobb police previously said. Instead, he drove her to a parking lot and sexually assaulted her, and she was in no condition to consent, AJC.com previously reported.

A Lyft spokesman sent Channel 2 Action News a statement following his arrest that said the company was devastated and banned Booze from using its app. The company assisted police in their investigation.

Booze is scheduled to be sentenced Tuesday.
