A man accused of illegally dumping tens of thousands of tires across metro Atlanta has been arrested, Clayton County police said Saturday.
Donald Deon Leverette has been wanted since March 2018, when he allegedly dumped 1,000 tires behind a Union City subdivision.
He “has several warrants ... in the metro area for the same offense,” Union City police spokesman officer Jerald January said last year after the tires were discovered in an undeveloped area near the city’s Southwind subdivision.

Since then, authorities believe Leverette, 35, dumped thousands more tires across metro Atlanta, including 100,0000 in various locations in Clayton County.

Leverette was arrested at a home in Jonesboro after his girlfriend told authorities he beat her with a handgun, police said.
The woman, who spoke with officers at Southern Regional Hospital, told police where her boyfriend was. Officers surrounded the home and were able to arrest Leverette without incident.
He faces at least nine felony charges of illegal dumping, Clayton County police said, but additional charges are expected from surrounding agencies.
