He eluded capture for nearly three months. But an 18-year-old Indiana man was behind bars Monday at the Cobb County jail, awaiting extradition.
Marqwan Delshuwn Beserra was arrested Friday morning at an apartment off Six Flags Drive in Austell, according to jail records. The South Bend man was charged with murder in the June 8 shooting death of 21-year-old Jerry Wright, but was on the run. U.S. Marshals tracked Beserra to Georgia.
On the night he was killed, Wright went to a house to see the mother of his child when he and Beserra began arguing and were escorted outside, according to reports. A witness told St. Joseph County investigators that the two continued arguing once they were outside and she overheard Beserra telling Wright that he had a gun, the South Bend Tribune reported. The woman also told investigators when shots were fired, Wright stumbled and fell while Beserra ran from the area.
Beserra was scheduled to appear in court in late June for two prior arrests in February, when he was charged with resisting law enforcement and carrying a handgun without a permit, according to reports.
