A Henry County police detective was taken to a local hospital with a non-life threatening injury after he accidentally shot himself Wednesday night, Channel 2 Action News reported.

Police officers were conducting a protective sweep of a house on Engine Run when a detective's gun went off as he was trying to holster it, authorities said. He suffered a leg wound.

Some of the residents of the house were not inside at the time of the shooting. At least one person was detained.

The shooting is under investigation, Henry County police Capt. Joey Smith said.
