Gwinnett police arrested a man they say was armed when he climbed a Buford resident’s fence and tried to force his way into the house.

Raahmil Brantley was arrested and charged with home invasion and cruelty to children May 23 in Buford, police spokesman Cpl. Deon Washington said.

The victim was in the back yard feeding his dog when he saw Brantley with a handgun climbing his back fence. The victim ran inside and locked the sliding glass door, Washington said. Brantley tried to open the door while the victim held it closed, Washington said.

When the victim saw Brantley pick up a metal hose in the yard, he grabbed his daughter and ran out of the house, screaming for someone to call 911, Washington said. A neighbor eventually called 911 after the victim ran there.

The neighbor and victim saw Brantley running through the victim’s back yard to get away, Washington said.

Police don’t know why the victim was targeted.

Brantley is in the Gwinnett County Detention Center without bond.
