A Gwinnett County man faces murder charges in the shooting death of his stepdaughter Thursday, police said.

The 43-year-old and his step-daughter were fighting at about 4:30 p.m. in their home on the 1900 Block of Pinehurst View Drive in Grayson, when police received a person shot call.

The 26-year-old’s mother, two teenage boys and two young children were inside the home when the shooting happened, Cpl. Deon Washington, a spokesman for Gwinnett police, said in a news release. They were not harmed.

The step-father ran off on foot before police arrived, but he was captured within an hour inside the subdivision, Washington said.

The woman was transported to an area hospital, but did not survive.

“This is a tragic situation that has ruined a family,” Washington said. “Our objective at this point is to conduct a thorough investigation and paint a clear picture for what led to this homicide.”
