A Lawrenceville doctor and physician assistant were arrested Monday, accused of illegally prescribing controlled substances.

Authorities say Dr. Beth Sullivan pre-signed blank prescription forms and provided them to physician assistant Dave George, who owns Riverside Family Medical on Riverside Parkway in Lawrenceville.

Georgia law prohibits doctors from pre-signing prescriptions, and physician assistants are not permitted to prescribe Schedule II drugs. Investigators said George’s physician assistant license was previously suspended for similar prescribing violations.

Sullivan was charged with violation of Georgia’s Controlled Substances Act, and George was charged with conspiracy and possession of marijuana, Gwinnett County Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Deputy Shannon Volkodav said. The arrests followed a three-month investigation.

Sullivan and George were transported to Gwinnett County Jail, and both have since been released on bond. Sullivan and George can no longer prescribe controlled substances.
