Officers from two law enforcement agencies shot a fugitive multiple times and used a Taser to subdue him in DeKalb County on Tuesday, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation said.
The incident happened at the Turner Hill Road exit ramp on I-20 in Lithonia. The Conyers Police Department initiated a traffic stop after a lookout was issued for the suspect by the Rockdale County Sheriff's Office, according to a GBI news release. The suspect was being sought on domestic violence charges. The lookout also said that the fugitive possibly had a weapon.
Conyers police initiated a traffic stop, with a Rockdale deputy participating. When the vehicle was stopped, the officers tried to get the suspect out of the vehicle.
The suspect attempted to elude arrest, and a Rockdale deputy used a Taser on the person, according to the GBI release. The suspect continued to move his vehicle and was shot “multiple times” by the officer.
The suspect, Diondre David Evans, 22, was taken to Grady Memorial Hospital with gunshot wounds to his arm and neck. He is listed in stable condition.
The GBI will conduct an independent investigation into the shooting. Findings will be turned over to the DeKalb County District Attorney’s Office.
Warrants out for Evans for the domestic violence incident were for battery, criminal trespass, and obstructing a 911 call, according to the GBI release.
