A Cobb County judge sentenced a former Fulton County narcotics prosecutor to six years’ probation Tuesday on felony drug charges.

Rand Jason Csehy, 44, of Roswell, once a rising star in the Fulton County district attorney office, was first charged with violation of Georgia’s Controlled Substances Act when he appeared in court as a defense lawyer in September 2014, District Attorney Vic Reynolds said. At the time he was found to be under the influence of methamphetamine, the prosecutor said.

Csehy was charged again while out on bond when he tested positive again for use of meth in January.

“This case is an example of no one being above the law,” Reynolds said. ” This defendant was a practicing attorney and former prosecutor, but he was held accountable for his actions because the evidence was presented pointing to his guilt.”

Superior Court Judge A. Gregory Poole found Csehy guilty after a non-jury trial.

Csehy's rise and descent in the legal profession was chronicled in an AJC story that detailed views of him as being a hard-nosed narcotics prosecutor with a reputation for working hand in hand with police officers to make cases. The story also detailed accounts of trouble with clients and in his personal life that were seen as responsible for his downfall.
