Atlanta police and the Fulton County Sheriff’s Office were investigating the death of a 34-year-old inmate who was found hanging in his cell Friday.

The inmate was discovered at 9 a.m. and paramedics transported the man to Grady Memorial Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, said jail spokeswoman Tracy Flanagan.

The death is a presumed suicide, but jail commanders requested an investigation, Flanagan said.

The inmate’s name is being withheld until the next of kin is notified.
