Two felons were arrested Tuesday morning in Midtown with hundreds of pieces of stolen mail and tools to break into mail boxes, authorities said.
Around 2 a.m., officers spotted Terrance Logan and Alonza Hunt near 800 Peachtree Street, Atlanta police said in a news release. The two allegedly ran away when approached.
They were arrested after a brief chase, and police found three bags on them that contained screwdrivers and hundreds of pieces of mail believed to have been stolen in the area, the release said.
Police believe Logan and Hunt pried open community mailboxes in the lobby of 800 Peachtree condominiums and stole mail from inside. No vehicles in the area appeared to have been broken into, police said.
Both face charges of burglary and possession of tools during the commission of a felony, according to Fulton County Jail records.
Logan faces additional probation violation and failure to appear in court for charges of possession of methamphetamine and financial card theft, jail records show. He has been arrested eight times, police said.
Hunt has been arrested 26 times for charges including burglary, check fraud, identity fraud, theft by taking and forgery, police said. He’s been convicted of charges that include identity fraud and the manufacturing or distribution of controlled substances, according to Fulton County court records.
As of Tuesday afternoon, they remain in jail without bond.
Atlanta police said the mail was returned to the owners.
